The analysis of last ranks of allotments to medical and allied courses after the mop-up counseling at phases 8 to 10 explores the trends in the allotments of KEAM 2019. As the mop-up counseling is restricted and conditional with limited number of colleges, last ranks of various categories including state merit may observe a roll back as compared to last ranks of previous online allotments.
Among the MBBS allotments concluded by the phase 8, Kozhikkode Medical College (KKM), Trivandrum Medical College (TVM), Kottayam Medical College (KTM) were the most favoured medical colleges in the state. The last ranks were varying from 260 (Kozhikkode Medical College) to 1223 (Palakkad Medical College) under government sector while self-financing medical colleges had allotment from 2289 (Pushpagiri Medical College) to 7313 (Al-Azhar Medical College). KEAM 2019 allotments included two new categories for MBBS course for the first time which are Economically Weaker Section (EW) for government medical colleges selected based on Income-Asset criterion where income from all sources should be below rupees eight lakhs by excluding candidates from reservation categories. Similarly All India Merit (AM) included for allotment for private self-financing medical colleges which is based on All India Merit of NEET without considering domicile status .The last rank of allotment for EW category is 8444 (KTM) while the last rank under AM is 7059 (MZM).
When the allotments to BDS were finalized by phase 9, the priorities were assigned to Thrissur Dental College (TCD), Kozhikkode Dental College (KKD), Trivandrum Dental College (TVD) and Kottayam Dental College( KTD).The candidates were allotted from 2003 (TCD) to 5490 ( KTD) in government dental colleges. In private self-financing dental colleges the last rank of allotments are varying between 6608 (Mar Basilious Dental College) to 49600 (Royal Dental College).
Among the allied courses B.V.Sc & AH is continued to be the most preferred even more preferred than BDS and BAMS courses, followed by B.Sc (Hon.) (Agriculture ), B.Sc (Hon.) Forestry and B.F.Sc Fisheries. The last ranks of the allotted candidates were respectively 4565 (AV), 8528 (AA), 8864 (FR) and 10106 (AF) under state merit (SM). It is certain that some of the meritorious candidates with better ranks could not fulfill their dream of pursuing MBBS may be because of the affordability of fees .They have to forgo their dream and pursue with B.V.Sc & AH or B.Sc (Hon.) (Agriculture ) courses. College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Trichur (TCV) and College of Horticulture (COH), Trichur were favoured institutions preferred by the aspirants among the allied courses.
AYUSH aspirants have given top priority to Kottakal Ayurveda medical college (KTL) even at the end of the KEAM allotments with the last rank of allotment as 5862 followed by Government Ayurveda College, Trivandrum (TVA) and Trippunithura Government Ayurveda College with the respective last ranks of 8127 and 8408 as compared to other Ayurveda Medical colleges for BAMS course. Candidates with last rank of 9166 (KNA) received allotment in Government Ayurveda Colleges while in self-financing sector it was 22113 (PPA) under state merit.
KEAM aspirants have favoured Kozhikkode Homoeo Medical college (LR 7687) and Trivandrum Homoeo Medical college (LR 10135) as their top choices for BHMS course. The last rank of allotment to BHMS is 11085 while BUMS and BSMS courses had allotments up to 25726 and 26196 respectively at the close of all allotments this year.
