Dr.Santhosh.S, Former Joint Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala

The analysis, after the third phase of KEAM 2020 allotments , is indicating continuing trends in the most preferred courses and colleges with dilution of last rank of allotted candidates in self-financing engineering sector. In government engineering colleges it is still with meritorious aspirants below the rank of 2000 limit. The demand in new generation courses like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, etc has not gained momentum even at the conclusion of allotments. There are exceptions like Computer Science & Engineering with Data Science of M.A College of Engineering, Kothamangalm (MAC) where the last rank of allotments was 3039 under state merit while Sri Chithira Thirunal College of Engineering (SCT) has received meritorious candidates up to the rank of 4995 in Computer Science & Engineering with Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning course. The most aspired engineering branches are more clearly visible after the third phase of allotments as Computer Science Engineering (CS) followed by Electronics & Communications Engineering (EC) , Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Applied Electronics, Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering (CH).

Among the engineering colleges under government sector College of Engineering, Trivandum (TVE) chosen as the most favoured destination for technical education followed by Thrissur Government Engineering college (TCR), TKM College of Engineering, Kollam (TKM), and Government Engineering college, Barton Hill ,Trivandrum( TRV) with differential pattern of courses.

The meritorious candidates have chosen Computer Science Engineering as their first choice to join the College of Engineering, Trivandum for their career moulding where the last rank of allotment was 466 under state merit (SM) category. It was followed by Electronics & Communications Engineering (Last Rank of EC-709), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Last Rank of EE-1463), Mechanical Engineering (Last Rank -1579) Applied Electronics (LR-2068) and Civil Engineering (Last Rank of CE-3080). The preferred courses included Chemical Engineering (CH) in Thrissur Government Engineering college with 3645 as the last rank of allotment.

Among the Government Controlled Self-financing engineering colleges a similar pattern is observed with Model Engineering College, Trikkakara leading followed by Sri Chithira Thirunal College of Engineering (SCT).

Among the private self-financing engineering colleges, only two institutions are marked with last rank of allotments below 10000 which are Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology (RET-LR 5839) for Computer Science Engineering course and Muthoot Institute of Technology & Science (MUT-LR 9679) for the same course.

In Government Engineering colleges, candidates up to the rank of 15118 have received allotment while in Government Controlled Engineering colleges, it was 53232 and in Private Self-financing Engineering colleges the last rank of allotment was 53229 under state merit category out of the total 53236 qualified candidates in the KEAM rank list .

The second allotment to the Architecture course was done along with the third phase of KEAM 2020.The most favoured Government institutions to pursue the Architecture course was College of Engineering, Trivandrum (TVE) with Last (Architecture) Rank of allotment 29 followed by TKM College of Engineering, Kollam (TKM-Last Rank of allotment 132) and Thrissur Government Engineering college (TCR-Last Rank of allotment 145) . Among the Private Self-financing Architecture colleges the prominent choices were College of Architecture ,Trivandrum (NVR- Last Rank of allotment 350) followed by MES School of Architecture, Kuttippuram (MRR – Last Rank of allotment 355) and Avani Institute of Design, Kozhikkode (AVR- Last Rank of allotment 426) while candidates up to the Architecture rank of 2626 were received allotments in Architecture course.

Under medical stream, Pharmacy course was preferred in College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kozhikkode followed by Allapuzha and Trivandrum Government Pharmacy Colleges. Among Self-financing Pharmacy colleges KMCT College of Pharmacy, Mampra, Malappuram (KCB- Last rank 6046) , Caritas College of Pharmacy, Thellakom, Kottayam (CAB- Last rank 6876) and Nirmala College of Health Science, Meloor, Thrissur (NEB- Last rank 7630) have been favoured by the aspirants. Candidates up to the rank of 25366 were allotted under Pharmacy course out of the total of 47081 candidates included in the Pharmacy rank list.
