Most Preferred Courses and Colleges under Engineering Stream- KEAM 2020

The under graduate technical courses of the state have witnessed innovative changes to attract the aspiring candidates to the new generation courses with combinations of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Blockchain etc. In the allotments of KEAM 2020 , there were seven streams of such engineering courses ,all in the self-financing sector ignoring government engineering colleges. There is only one government controlled engineering college (SCT) where Artificial Intelligence is introduced. The analysis of last ranks of 2020 after the first phase of online allotments done by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) during 2020, has indicated specific trends of the prioritization of courses and colleges by the meritorious aspirants of the state. The present analysis looking at the courses and colleges including the new generation courses to know the levels of acceptance by the aspirants. In Engineering stream , they had definite patterns of selection of courses and colleges for their career moulding.

The aspirants of engineering courses have favoured College of Engineering, Trivandum (TVE) in all the six most preferred engineering courses during 2020.The top meritorious candidates have chosen Computer Science Engineering as their first choice to join the College of Engineering, Trivandum for their higher studies. The last rank of allotment in Computer Science Engineering (CS) was 131 under state merit (SM) category.

The second preferred course was Electronics & Communications Engineering (Last Rank of EC-229) which is followed by Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Last Rank of EE-501) , Mechanical Engineering (Last Rank of ME-617 ), Applied Electronics (Last Rank of AE-1047), and Civil Engineering (Last Rank of CE-1395). The ME and CE were pushed down in 2020 by the candidates as compared to the last year.

The most preferred courses included Chemical Engineering (CH) in Thrissur Government Engineering college with 2296 as the last rank of allotment followed by Agricultural Engineering Course (AG) in Kelappaji College of Engineering & Technology, Tavanur with last rank of 3879 and Diary Technology (DS) in College of Diary Science & Technology (Last Rank-4297).

The College of Engineering, Trivandrum (TVE) followed by Thrissur Government Engineering college (TCR) , TKM College of Engineering, Kollam (TKM) and Government Engineering college, Barton Hill ,Trivandrum( TRV), Govt. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam (KTE) are the preferred destinations of technical courses under government sector .

In Government Controlled Self-financing engineering colleges a similar pattern is observed with Model Engineering College, Trikkakara leading with meritorious candidates followed by Sri Chithira Thirunal College of Engineering (SCT), College of Engineering, Chengannur (CHN) and LBS Institute of Technology (LBT) for women as the prominent destinations of higher learning.

Among the private self-financing engineering colleges, new institutions are emerging with Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology (RET) followed by Mar Baselious College of Engineering & Technology (MBT) as preferred technical institutions. Among the new generation courses introduced this year , Computer Science Engineering with Artificial Intelligence of SCT had attracted meritorious candidates where the last rank of allotment was 3189 followed by RET in Artificial Intelligence with Data Analysis (LR-6674).

In Government Engineering colleges candidates up to the rank of 7161 have received allotment while in Government Controlled Engineering colleges, it was 28406 and in Private Self-financing Engineering colleges the last rank of allotment was 53222 under state merit category out of the total 53236 qualified candidates in the KEAM rank list .

Under medical stream, Pharmacy course was preferred in College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kozhikkode followed by Trivandrum and Allapuzha Government Pharmacy Colleges.
