In 2021, the professional education in engineering courses has observed different trends as compared to the year 2020 in KEAM allotments. The new generation courses attached with Computer Science like Machine learning, Data science, Artificial Intelligence, Business Studies were attracted by the meritorious aspirants as against last year. In addition, Economically Weaker Sections of the forward communities were given a reservation of ten percent in all types of colleges in this year as part of the progressive reservation policy of the state (Last year it was supernumerary seats). The analysis of last ranks after the first allotment has indicated that the Computer Science Engineering (CS) as the prime choice of the meritorious aspirants in all colleges. The last rank of allotment for CS in government engineering colleges was 1106. The combination of Computer Science with Data Science was the second preferred course as indicated by the last rank of 2059 (MA college of Engineering). The Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning with Computer Science (CL) of Sri Chithira Thirunal College of Engineering (SCT-LR 3114) was also an attraction of 2021.
Under government engineering colleges, the courses of Electronics & Communications Engineering (EC-LR 3867), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EE-LR 4552), Civil Engineering (CE-5199) and Mechanical Engineering (ME-6029) were the preferred professional courses for technical education. The same trend can be seen in government controlled self-financing engineering colleges and private self-financing engineering colleges. So the demand in the conventional branches of engineering courses is still an attraction among the aspirants of the state and it is essential for the development of any country. College of Engineering, Trivandum (TVE) is continued to be the favourable destination for the technical education among the aspirants. It was followed by Thrissur Government Engineering college (TCR) and TKM College of Engineering, Kollam (TKM).
Among the Government Controlled Self-financing engineering colleges, Model Engineering College, Trikkakara (MDL) is leading with meritorious candidates followed by Sri Chithira Thirunal College of Engineering (SCT). In Model Engineering College the last rank of allotments for CS, EC, EE, ME respectively 538,1917,3845 and 6741.
The Computer Science Engineering course was chosen as the first priority by the meritorious candidates in Private Self-Financing Engineering Colleges also. Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology (RET-LR 2673) followed by Muthoot Institute of Technology & Science (MUT-LR 4736) and Federal Institute of Science & Technology (FIT-LR 5770) were the most preferred engineering colleges under the private sector. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science course was the dearest among the aspirants in RET (LR-5252). The combination of Computer Science with Business Systems had an allotment up to 5379 in RET. The last rank of allotment for Computer Science Engineering with Artificial Intelligence in MUT is 6945. Thus, the new generation computer courses introduced last year were favoured by the aspirants in the current year.
The Economically weaker (EW) category of students have received an allotment up to the rank of 26899 in Government Engineering colleges while the last rank of allotment under EW category under Government Controlled Self-financing Colleges and Private Self-financing Engineering colleges are 47272 ,47488 respectively .
The most favoured Government institutions to pursue the Architecture course was College of Engineering, Trivandrum (TVE) with Last Rank of allotment 25 followed by Thrissur Government Engineering college (TCR-Last Rank of allotment 97) and TKM College of Engineering, Kollam(TKM-Last Rank of allotment 112). Among the Private Self-financing Architecture colleges the prominent choices were College of Architecture , Trivandrum (NVR- Last Rank of allotment 273), MES School of Architecture, Kuttippuram (MRR – Last Rank of allotment 277) and , Avani Institute of Design, Kozhikkode (AVR- Last Rank of allotment 313. Candidates upto the rank of 1580 were received allotments in Architecture course in the first allotment.
Under Pharmacy stream, course was preferred in College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kozhikkode (LR-111) followed by Trivandrum (LR- 369 )and Allapuzha (LR- 399) Government Pharmacy Colleges. Among Self-financing Pharmacy colleges Al Shifa College of Pharmacy, Poonthavanam (LR- 3141) was the most favoured pharmacy college.
The allotments of government engineering colleges are likely to be disturbed when IIT , NIIT admissions and medical admissions commence after the release of allotments under joint seat allocation (JOSA ) based on JEE and NEET.
