Unbiased, fearless journalism need of the hour: Sumithra Gandhi

Kottakal: Impartial, bold and journalism which stands for the protection of justice is the need of the hour, said renowned social activist and granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi Sumithra Gandhi Kulkarni. She said that the role played by 'Mathrubhumi' in raising the thinking ability of Malayalees is invaluable. She was speaking at the function organised to felicitate freedom fighters as part of celebrating the 75th year of Gandhiji's visit to Malappuram .



''Tears rolling in my eyes when I see them,' she said looking at the freedom fighters. 'They are the friends and companions of my great grantfather. When I touch their feet, I feel like touching the feet of my grandfather', she said.

Arya Vaidya Sala trustee Dr P K Warrier inaugurated the function. Mathrubhumi Managing Editor P V Chandran welcomed the gathering. Mathrubhumi Managing Director M P Veerendra Kumar presided over. He said that the memory of Gandhiji flourish most in Malappuram than any other place .Gandhiji was the main force behid the Khilafath movement.

Sumithra Gandhi presented gifts and momentos to the freedom fighters. MP Veerendrakumar offered a gift to Sumithra Gandhi. P V Chandran presented ceremonial shawl to Dr P K Warrier who was honoured with Padmabhushan
