
Aluva: Noted Gandhian and former director of Gandhian Institute of Studies, Varanasi, Prof. Ramji Singh said that Gandhiji had tried to provide justice and freedom to the last person among the poor. He said that even though 63 years have passed since independence, we are not able to fulfill his dream. He was inaugurating a function to felicitate freedom fighters in Ernakulum district commemorating 75 years of Gandhiji's visit to `Mathrubhumi'.
Gandhi proclaimed that after the ouster of British he would protest against capitalism. But here capitalism is growing and division between rich and poor keeps widening. The daily income or more than 78 percent of Indians is still Rs 18. He said that the dream of Gandhiji to bring prosperity to all is a distinct dream.
Ram Singh remembered that it was Gandhji who united India with more than 600 countries and cultures. Ramji felicitated 12 freedom fighters and presented gifts to them. In the function held at Aluva Mahathma Gandhi Town hall, Adv Bhaskara Menon , Mathrubhumi director presided. Dr M Thomas Mathew, M A Yusuf MLA, Dr M Leelavathi, Mathrubhumi managing director M P Veerendrakumar, director (Marketing and Electronics media) M V Shreyamskumar MLA and MV Devan attended the function.
