Both serve different purposes. Clearing GATE, enables you to go for Higher Studies (M Tech) with Fellowship as well as compete for Executive Trainee positions in leading public undertakings for which high score is needed. If you feel you can score high, go for it. SSC examinations are for employment purposes. So if you are not very confident on GATE, try for SSC selection process. IF you get time for preparation attend GATE also.

Integrated courses are becoming very common these days particularly, outside kerala. It enables one to complete the UG and PG courses at one go, through a single admission process. This itself is the greatest advantage of the course. You get a PG Degree after completing the course successfully. It ensures continuity in syllabus and institution. You get a Degree and PG Degree. Some institutions offer the 'Exit' option which enables one to come out after 3 years, with a Degree. if this option is not there, you will have to spend 5 years to get the degree and come out. So you must be ready to study for 5 years. The equivalency of the course with MSc must be ensured from the other Universities
