You get some information at http://www.tndte.com/admission/index.html. One Engg College oversees the admission. In 2008, the notification came around May 2008.

Aeronautical Engg is included in the allotment of CEE for the first time. The college starts functioning this year only. As such there will some limitations during the first few years. It will take some time to settle down. Yet, if you have a specific interest for Aeronautical Engg, the branch would be good. It is narrow field and there can be advantages and disadvantages for that. Employment prospects are there if you can complete the course well. Higher Education facilities are also available.

There are not much courses after BA English that can be completed in one year around Calicut, other than B.Ed. Calicut University has PG Diploma in English Communication. Department of Culture and Heritage, Cochin University conducts one-year Diploma in Communicative English, on a part time basis.
Admission to Polytechnics is based on class X marks. So he can join Poly based on class X marks. The Diploma courses are of 3 years duration. Trades are there in Engineering/Technology stream and Commercial practice. Polytechnics are there in all districts. Trades include Civil, Mechanical, Electrical& Electronics, Chemical, Computer, Polymer Technology etc. (Over 21 trades)

You cannot compare CS with ME as they are two entirely different branches. SCT is a highly preferred college in the Govt Supported SF sector.
