Basically there is no difference in joining through All India Quota and State Quota. But if you have a chance to get allotment under All India Quota, by taking that seat, you will be ensuring that another student from Kerala would be getting admission through state allotment since your elgible seat in AIQ need not be filled by a Kerala student if you do not take admission there. There is no difference in the fee structure or course duration for AIQ/State candidates. There are five Medical Colleges in Kerala at Kozhikode, Trissur, Kottayam, Alppuzha and Trivandrum. It is understood that one OBC seat was allotted at JIPMER last year. This year also, it is being given only in Central Institutions. To give an answer to question of this type, last ranks of previous year are taken usually as a criterion. But in the case of CUSAT, two problems arise. One is the non availability of last ranks of previous years. The second thing is the modifications made in the pattern of examination this year. Till last year CUSAT CAT was held on all India basis and admission given accordingly. But this time the university has decided to set apart 50pc free seats to Kerala students and the rest for all India level admission. In such a situation there may be wide differences in the ranks and admission given. Since it is announced that this time councelling is via online let us hope that from this year onwards last ranks would be made available. OK ?

Dear sir,

Seats are alllotted to various categories, UR, SC and ST based on a specific order. The '2200 point Reservation Roster' identifies the seats to be allotted to each of the ranks under UR category, SC category and ST category, if there are 2200 seats available for allotment. According to this, the first 6 seats go to UR category, the 7th to SC category, 8th to 13th again to UR category, 14th to SC category, 15th to ST category and so on. This ensures that 7.5% seats, 15% seats and 77.5% go to ST, SC and UR categories respetively. You can get the complete details of the distribution of seats in this scheme if you visit http://mohfw.nic.in/medical_counselling.html, click 'Under Graduate - 2008- 1st round- Implementation of SC/ST Reservation – UG 2008'
