There has not been any official decision on this so far although there is some recommendation for that. Some announcements can be expected shortly as per the statement of the Minister for Education

There is no official announcement on this in the Prospectus, it is understood although there were some reports in media.

As per the information put in the Notification, "The result of the written part of the examination is likely to be Declared in the Month of JULY, 2009"

Chemical engineering deals with the application of Physical Science with Mathematics, to the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. In addition to producing useful materials, chemical engineering is also concerned with pioneering valuable new materials and techniques, an important form of research and development. Chemical engineering largely involves the design and maintenance of chemical processes for large-scale manufacture. Chemical engineers get placemetns in chemical process and petrochemical industries, pharmaceuticals; health care; pulp and paper; food-processing; polymers; biotechnology; and environmental health and safety sectors. Fertilizer plants, petroleum refineries, plastic and yarn manufacturing companies, food and mineral processing industries also offer jobs to Chemical Engineers.

It depends on whether you want to take up a career in a trade or you want to have a general course. Polytechnic courses are generally employment oriented. It can provide the platform for self- employment too. You are elgiible for admisison to B.Tech 2nd year through Lateral entry, after sucessful completion of 3 year Diploma. You also becoem eligible for admission to B.Tech first year. This does not mean that the general course is bad. You can go for Degree courses after Plus Two and then continue in that stream with higher studies etc.
