The decision to take a branch should not be decided by popular choice. You must have some interest in it. If you are interested in Chemical Engg you should go for it and not for EC just because majority of your firends are planing to go for it. Regarding the scope of this and job preospects see answers given in this portal several times. Compared to IT sector, the openings may not be that large.

Nobody can foresee the situation 4-5 years from now. Do not think of the salary before joining the course. Try to complete the course well without any back papers so that you are employable. As long as the world is there constructions will be there whether it is roads or bridges or buildings or anything of that sort and all these need support of Civil engineers. Civil Engineers can enter the IT sector also.

You have to attend the allotment process by registering options as and when it is announced. Last ranks of 2008 are available at http://www.cee-kerala.org/engmed/2008/LRANK_2008A.pdf which can be different in 2009.
i got 19303th rank in kerala engg: entrance exam.i am looking mech,EC,EE,CS branches.where i get a seat.which college is giid for me.[i'm a muslim student]
i got 9742th rank in cusat entrance.

Whether it is admissions at CUSAT or KEAM, you have to attend the allotment process by registering options. CUSAT will announce the result of trial allotment on July 2. You have to participate in the allotment process and see the chances. You can contact the LBS Centre for the Last rank details of 2008 admissions.

The availability of seats through lateral entry will be announced before the allotment pocess starts.
