You cannot do a course well if you do not have any interest in that. MBA and M.Tech take you to different areas. If you have a taste for a research oriented or an academic career, an M.Tech may be suitable. But if you have a taste for Management and related activities, an MBA may suit you. By this age, you should be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses. Any area of specialisation can take you to great heights if you fit into that area. So this aspect is also relative. With a good M.Tech, you can continue in the academic field with a reasonably decent salary and status with the revised pay scales being implemented. You have fixed income without any worry about the recessions and fluctuations in the market. But the jobs are mainly in the Government/Aided sector. After MBA, your placement mainly will be related to private sector. Limited opportunities will be available in the Public sector. Naturally, as you have seen, recession can be a problem at times. Your salary may be related to your output. But you get good salary and status. So think on these lines and take a decision.

Generally the courses of IGNOU are recognised by other Universities. It is better to contact the Academic Section of the University of Kerala to know the actual position so that there will not be any difficulty in future.

Please see th  latest Prospectus for MBA admissions of Kerala University, at the link http://www.imk.ac.in/pdfs/notif31_1_09.pdf It just states that SC/ST candidates shall be given relaxation as per University rules. It is now left to the candidates to enquire about the 'University Rules'. This only shows how the University takes things in a light manner. The University could have just given the relaxed marks. So the only option now left to the canidate is to enquire from the academic section, the relaxation available for SC/ST students. An old Notification of MBA admission available at http://www.keralauniversity.edu/whatsnew/noti_mba_keruni_2006.pdf shows that SC/ST applicants need only a pass in the qualifying examination, for admission to MBA. Ensure that this is still in force.

Please go through the link 'Recognition by DEC' at http://www.dec.ac.in/ It is the Distance Education Council, UGC and AICTE to give approval for the courses. But the sites of these organisation are generally not providing the needed information.
